How the tourist tax works in Switzerland

The tourist tax (Kurtaxe, also called overnight, guest or accommodation tax) is a per-person, per-night charge that overnight guests pay. As the host you collect it from your guests and pass it on to the municipality.

The rate is set by each municipality and varies widely.
Children are often reduced or exempt (age limits differ by municipality).
The tax is usually charged on top of the accommodation price.
You typically report and remit it periodically to the municipality.
